Solar systems may contain planets that can be mined, stations at which players can dock to perform various trade and industry functions, asteroid fields or belts that can be mined, stargates allowing movement between solar systems, and anomalies at which players encounter hostile NPC ships. Gameplay in Eve Echoes is in an environment of more than 8000 solar systems, taking place in 23341 A.D. The character that players play as is called a clone.
